Double the farmers' income through cultivation of bamboo on private agricultural lands.
Bamboo based livelihoods and employment opportunities can go a long way in meeting the dual objective of accelerating the rural economy while doubling the farmers' income. Bamboo has been traditionally used in handicrafts along with pulp making, manufacturing, food and textile industry, and the like.
A farmer taking up Bamboo cultivation will never have to succumb to Suicide!
Nimad has been known for its Neem trees and large fields covered with cotton and chillies. Mr. Vijay Patidar, a resident of Mengaon, district Khargone, M,P., intends to make Bamboo as the new identity of the village. High risk and huge losses faced by farmers engaged in conventional farming pushed Mr. Patidar to look for more viable alternatives and bamboo cultivation emerged as one such option. Reflecting back on the past two years of bamboo farming, he said that the crop is immune to changing weather conditions and thus offers low risk. Being a beneficiary under the scheme, he said that the subsidy provided by the State Bamboo Mission of Rs. 120 per plant in three years, brings down the total cost further down. Moreover, since bamboo is less prone to pest infestation and diseases faced normally by other crops, application of expensive chemicals and fertilisers also reduces.
