Bamboo Propagation and Processing Training Conducted at KFRI

A comprehensive five-day training programme focused on bamboo propagation, plantation management, processing, and treatment successfully concluded at the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) on December 27. The initiative aimed to equip participants with technical expertise in sustainable bamboo cultivation and value-added processing, reinforcing the institute's role as a pioneer in tropical forestry research.

The programme was formally inaugurated by Dr. Shyam Viswanath, former Director of KFRI, who highlighted the growing economic and ecological importance of bamboo in the modern bio-economy. During the inaugural session, Dr. V. B. Sreekumar, Head of the Forest Botany Division and Programme Coordinator, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the need for scientific interventions to enhance bamboo resources.

To provide participants with a clear roadmap of the curriculum, Dr. A. V. Raghu, Head of the Extension and Training Division and Training Coordinator, detailed the course modules, which ranged from nursery techniques to advanced preservation methods. The sessions included hands-on training and theoretical insights into managing bamboo as a sustainable alternative to timber. The event drew to a close with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. K. A.
