22nd Kerala Bamboo Fest Commences in Kochi

The 22nd edition of the Kerala Bamboo Fest was grandly inaugurated by Shri P. Rajeev, Hon'ble Minister for Industries, Law, and Coir, at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium Grounds in Kaloor. The event, organized by the Kerala State Bamboo Mission and the Department of Industries and Commerce, serves as a premier platform to showcase the artistic, cultural, and sustainable potential of bamboo. The inaugural ceremony was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Shri P. Vishnuraj IAS (Director of Industries & Commerce), Shri A. P. M. Mohammed Hanish IAS (Principal Secretary, Industries), Shri T. J. Vinod MLA, and Shri Tiruchi Siva MP. Smt. V. K. Minimol, Hon'ble Mayor of Cochin Corporation, delivered the keynote address, while special addresses were provided by District Collector Smt. Priyanka G. IAS, Smt. Anie Jula Thomas, IAS, and Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Mission Director of the National Bamboo Mission.

During the proceedings, Dr. Kannan C. S. Warrier, Director of the Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI), highlighted the critical role of bamboo in enhancing livelihoods and fostering climate resilience. The festival features a diverse assembly of around 300 artisans, innovators, and organizations from across India and abroad, displaying everything from traditional handiwork to modern, eco-friendly lifestyle products. This celebration of bamboo’s versatility, aimed at promoting green industry and sustainable development, is open to the public until January 1, 2026.
